Yes, it's possible to damage the tag. You'll need to use the NXP - NFC Reader App to determine whether it is damaged. Don't be concerned about it if it is damaged; replace it with a new one.

Note: Keep it at a safe distance from your Magnet or Magnetic phone charger.
